Of Māori origin, Wiremu moved to Australia in 2006 in pursuit of a career as a Sommelier.

Wiremu joined Rockpool Dining Group, and also Smalls Wine Bar. He later worked part-time at Pt. Leo Estate and Laura restaurants as a Sommelier, while the nuts and bolts for his company took shape. Dearth of a Salesman was launched in 2015, a wine and consultancy business showcasing small, domestic quality-focused producers.

In 2022, Wiremu became a partner at Sentio Wines in Beechworth, where he is involved in the many facets of operating this exciting business.

Close to Wiremu’s heart is to bring a cultural revolution to the wine community, as seen in his role in launching Sommelier Australia’s Diversity and Inclusion Working Group. A highly valued member of the association and national committee, Wiremu is responsible for mobilising and hosting multiple events for the benefit of the association’s members.
