[WA] Yu Kurosawa – Bakkheia Wines
Yu grew up with hospitality in her veins. Her father was a hotel manager and her mother helped at the ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) owned by her grandparents. This drove her to learn English in New Zealand, and then to study Travel Management in London. It was in New Zealand she started working in wine, joining the Christchurch team Le Bon Bolli, before heading to London engaging in a position at Claridge’s Hotel.
Relocating to Melbourne, she dove head first into hospitality, honing her skills in Collins Quarter and Edwin Wine Bar and Cellar. During lockdown in 2020, she began to work for Bakkheia Wines in Geographe, WA. From there, Yu has pursued opportunities as a wine judge, working in vintages, brand marketing and winemaking. Yu’ is still at home with the team at Bakkheia as their production and marketing manager.
