A relatively recent arrival in the Melbourne wine community, Andrew has been working as a sommelier, educator, and venue manager in Melbourne venues since 2017. As one of the founders of Cardwell Cellars, a wine importer and a combined shop and bar, Andrew has carved out a national niche by focusing on wines from Central and Eastern Europe. He is known for his expertise in Austrian and Hungarian wines and is a vocal supporter of emerging Australian winemakers experimenting with unique grape varieties.

Andrew’s journey into the wine world began in Portland, Oregon, in 2012, where he worked in the wine section of a small organic grocery store. By 2014, he had established himself as a local wine importer, bringing wines from top estates in Germany, Austria, Luxembourg, and Hungary to the West Coast of the United States while also working as a sommelier in Portland. Seeking an adventure abroad, and a receptive market for Central European wines, Andrew moved to Melbourne in 2017 where he continues this work through his dual role as an importer and wine buyer at Cardwell Cellars. His passion for wine is matched by his obsession with History, Geography, and Anthropology, which form the foundation of his interest in Wine.
